Kasich Administration Issues Health Report

The Govenor’s Office of Health Transformation (OHT) has issued a report outlining its health and human services accomplishments for 2011.

 The report claims Medicaid reforms instituted during the last 12 months have improved the quality of care for 2.2 million individuals while saving Ohioans $1.5 billion over the next two years.  The report also highlights the OHT’s efforts to modernize and contain health and human services programs by coordinating activities in six different state departments and engaging private partners to “drive system-wide reform.”

 Examples of programs and accomplishments cited include:

  • Increased support of the PASAPORT/Choices, waivers and other programs for people with disabilities;
  • A unified Medicaid budget for seniors to receive services at home;
  • Quality improvement programs in Ohio’s nursing homes;
  • $87 million in start-up funding to encourage children’s hospitals and physician networks to form Accountable Care Organizations for disabled children on Medicaid;
  • Building Patient-Centered Medical Homes through creation of the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative;
  • Creating Health Homes for people with chronic conditions by investing $47.25 million to enhance coordination of medical and behavioral health;
  • Attacking the Opiate Epidemic through 24 community opiate task forces and a statewide network to support family and engagement groups;
  • Improving services for people with mental illness through increased state funding; and
  • Increasing efficiency, improving system performance, and sharing services through technology
