Ohio Selects Five Health Plans To Manage Dual Eligibles

The Ohio Office of Health Transformation (OHT) has selected five health plans to participate in a seven-region demonstration project that will serve indivduals who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, beginning April 1, 2013.

According to the OHT, the Integrated Care Delivery System (ICDS) is designed to  manage the full spectrum of Medicare and Medicaid benefits for Ohio's dual eligible population. The ICDS will also identify and incentivize new techniques for the improvement of care.

Selected health plans will undergo readiness reviews before provider agreements are signed and enrollment begins. The ICDS will be conducted in 29 counties in seven regions surrounding the state's major urban areas and cover 114,972 of the 182,328 Ohioans eligible under both programs.

Two plans will provide services in each region, with the exception of the northeast sector, which will have three. Plans include:

  • Aetna Better Health of Ohio will operate in the northwest, southwest and central regions.
  • Buckeye Community Health Plan will operate in the northwest, west central and northeast regions.
  • Molina Healthcare will operate in the southwest, west central and central regions.
  • CareSource will operate in the east central, northeast central and northeast regions.
  • United Healthcare Community Plan of Ohio will operate in the east central, northeast central and northeast regions.
