ATSU-SOM To Place FP Residents in Ohio
The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has recently awarded a $4 million grant to the Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education in partnership with A.T. Still University of Health Sciences-School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA), to launch a multi-state primary care residency program.
Beginning July 1, 2013, the Wright Center-ATSU Community Healthcare Hub will place 20 medical school graduates each year for three years in community health centers around the country, including one in HealthSource of Ohio in Milford, Ohio. The objective of the Wright Center-ATSU Community Healthcare Hub is to create opportunities for residents to train with urban and rural underserved populations, with the ultimate goal of establishing more primary care practices in these communities.
Unlike most residency programs, which both take place in and are managed by individual hospitals or medical centers, the Wright Center-ATSU Community Healthcare Hub will be spread among healthcare organizations in Arizona, Ohio, Oregon, New York and Washington.
The 20 residents chosen to participate in the Wright Center -ATSU Community Healthcare Hub will be placed in the Virginia Garcia Memorial Healthcare Center in Hillsboro, Oregon; Lutheran Family Health Centers in Brooklyn, New York; HealthSource of Ohio in Milford, Ohio; HealthPoint in Renton, Washinton; or the El Rio Community Health Center in Tucson, Arizona.
