COA Presents Awards, Elects Council

The Columbus Osteopathic Association (COA) honored two individuals with awards at its Annual Meeting, April 17, 2007, at Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse at Easton Town Center.

Richard H. Bracken, DO, received the James F. Sosnowski, DO, Distinguished Service Award, and Richard A. Vincent received the William I. Linder, DO, Advocate Award.

Bracken was honored for his lifelong contributions to the osteopathic profession and his demonstrated commitment to osteopathic philosophy, patient care, and medical education. The award is presented annually to a COA member in memory of the only DO killed in action in Vietnam.

Vincent, president of the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations, was cited for his strong support of and commitment to osteopathic medical education and to the improved health and quality of life in Central Ohio. Created in 1997, the award honors the memory of Dr. Linder, who served for many years as writer and editor of the COA publication The Advocate.

In addition, members at the Annual Meeting also elected officers and delegates to the OOA House of Delegates, networked, and heard an educational program from Michael Patterson, DO, a nephrologist from Mansfield.

The meeting was co-sponsored by OU-COM Society of Alumni & Friends and Novartis.
