A small group of Ohio House Republicans announced on Monday they would file articles of impeachment against Gov. Mike DeWine over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Reps. John Becker, Candice Keller, Nino Vitale, and Paul Zeltwanger are leading the effort.
In a lengthy statement, Becker blamed the governor for the economic situation, saying it’s “long past time to put an end to government gone wild.”
Political leaders on both sides called the action a political stunt and immediately rebuked the idea. The new House Speaker, Bob Cupp, dismissed the impeachment talk, saying “it is an imprudent attempt to escalate important policy disagreements with the governor into a state constitutional crisis.”
