Nita Bhatt, MD to serve a second term as President

Earlier this month, then President-elect Victoria Kelly, MD, announced she needed to step down from the position due to several unanticipated work commitments. At that time, and in accordance with OPPA Bylaws, the Nominating Committee met to make a recommendation to Council to replace Dr. Kelly as president-elect. The Nominating Committee voted unanimously to recommend Nita Bhatt, MD, serve in that position, and that she then become president of OPPA for an unprecedented second term. The Council voted unanimously to pass the action paper by the Nominating Committee.

As stated in the Action Paper from the Nominating Committee, “Dr. Bhatt has demonstrated remarkable leadership throughout her tenure as president. Her efforts have significantly contributed to raising OPPA’s profile and effectiveness, record-breaking attendance at the Spring meeting, and increasing membership. Under her guidance, numerous new programs were initiated, which have gained substantial momentum and have positively impacted our members.”

The OPPA is most appreciative and grateful that Dr. Bhatt has graciously agreed to serve a second term as president. Her unwavering commitment to the organization's mission and her leadership capabilities will undoubtedly continue to drive our success. As she embarks on this second term, Dr. Bhatt will continue to lead the organization in thriving and growing while achieving its strategic goals.

The OPPA would like to thank Victoria Kelly, MD, for her willingness to serve as president-elect. Although she needed to step down from the position, we are delighted that she will continue to lend her expertise in several important initiatives.

Dr. Bhatt's second term of president began at the close of the APA Annual Meeting on May 21, 2025.
