Governor Signs Bill to Improve Community Health Planning

Gov. John Kasich signed legislation, June 28, to coordinate local health assessments and improvement plans. The new law (ORC 3701.981) requires tax-exempt hospitals and local health districts to submit their existing community health improvement plans to the state so they can be posted online beginning July 2017.

Governor Signs Osteopathic Recognition Month Bill

Governor John Kasich signed HB 352, May 31, designating April as "Osteopathic Medicine Recognition Month, after the Senate unanimously passed the bill by a vote of 29-0, before adjourning until November.

OOA House to Consider 22 Resolutions

The Ohio a osteopathic Association House of Delegates meets April 22-23, during the Ohio Osteopathic Symposium at the Olumbus Hilton at Easton Town Center.

Ohio Issues Acute Pain Prescribing Guidelines

The new guidelines address short-term acute pain from injuries, or surgical and dental procedures that is expected to resolve within 12 weeks. Cynthia S. Kelley, DO, of Akron; Cleanne Cass, DO, of Dayton; and Mark N. Malinowski, DO, of Chillicothe, helped to write the guidelines, which specifically mention osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine as an alternative to opioids.
